Get Started with Git in Five Minutes

Hi,

Fear Git? Fear no more.

If you have five minutes and Linux Mint or Ubuntu or another Debian-based Linux, you can try Git now. Once you git, you never go back.

Install

sudo apt-get install git
sudo apt-get install meld
sudo apt-get install nano

Configure

git config --global user.name "Your Name"
git config --global user.email email@example.com
git config --global core.editor "nano"
git config --global merge.tool meld

Create First Repository

cd ~
mkdir ./projects
cd projects
mkdir ./test
cd test
touch testfile
git add .
git status
git commit -m "Initial commit of test file for tutorial!"
